Odoyo Owidi fired as CSs make radical shake up in state agencies

Owidi has been a defender of the Kenya Kwanza administration on TV shows.

Cabinet Secretaries have made sweeping changes to several state agencies, including the dismissal of vocal Kenya Kwanza defender Odoyo Owidi, as part of the government's ongoing reorganisation of parastatals.

Water and Irrigation CS Eric Muriithi appointed Daniel Omino as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency, for a period of three years.

“The appointment of Odoyo Owidi is revoked,” read part of the gazette notice.

Owidi, a frequent guest on popular TV stations defending the government, was among the early Luo Nyanza leaders who backed President William Ruto ahead of the 2022 general election.

Previously a member of the ODM party, Owidi resigned before the last election, citing a lack of transparency.

He had also served as Chair of the Lake Basin Development Authority.

In the changes, Energy and Petroleum CS Opiyo Wandayi named Martha Nyangwaria to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, for a period of three years, with effect from the 16th May, 2025.

Wandayi also appointed Anne Michura to be a member of the Board of the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency, for a period of three years, with effect from the 16th May, 2025.

On his part, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migosi appointed Eugene Masombo be a member of the Board of Trustees for the President’s Award, for a period of three years, with effect from the 16th May, 2025.

In the meantime, Agriculture and Livestock Development CS Mutahi Kagwe appointed Wario Yattani to be a member of the Board of the Kenya Animal Genetics Resource Centre, for a period of three years, with effect from the 16th May, 2025.

Kagwe also re-appointed George Odhiambo Oballa to be a member of the Board of the Kenya Animal Genetics Resource Centre, for a period of three years.

Blue Economy CS Hassan Joho appointed Francis Njoroge to be a member of the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute for a period of three years.

Information and Communication CS William appointed Leah Manyarkiy, Christopher Matseshe Naicca, and Dominic Salvio Kariuki Wambugu to be members of the Board of Directors of the Information and Communications Technology Authority, for a period of three years.

He revoked the appointments of Annette Mutuku, Alfred Ngeno and Michael Njogu Wachira.

At the same time, Muriithi appointed Jackson Mwenda to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Regional Centre on Groundwater Resources Education, Training and Research in Eastern Africa, for a period of three years.

Gender and Culture CS Hanna Cheptumo made her first appointments as CS, picking Addullahi Nur Sheikh to be a member of the National Heroes Council, for a period of three years, with effect from the 16th May, 2025.

East African Community CS Beatrice Askul Jattani Godana to a member of the National Drought Management Authority, for a period of three years, with effect from the 16th May, 2025.
