A middle-aged businessman was on Friday arraigned before Principal Magistrate  Rose Ndombi at the Milimani Law Courts over allegations of defrauding Credit Bank of Kenya of over Sh36 million.

William Kuria Josiah, the director of Techspa General Supplies Limited, is accused of committing a serious offence to unlawfully obtain Sh36,460,366.80 from the bank.

He is also facing charges of forgery, making a false document, and uttering a false document without authority.

Mr Kuria pleaded not guilty to all charges.

He was represented in court by advocate Lucy Gitonga, who requested the court to release him on a cash bail of Sh100,000.

She also informed the court that negotiations between the accused and the bank to resolve the matter out of court were ongoing and progressing well.

However, Ms Namwonga, the complainant's advocate, argued that the bail terms should reflect the seriousness of the alleged offence.

At the time of his arraignment, Mr Kuria was already out on a Sh100,000 bail.

Magistrate Ndombi granted the accused release on a bond of Sh1 million and allowed the continuation of the Sh100,000 cash bail, provided he presents two contact persons.

The pre-trial has been scheduled for 3rd June.
