ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo has addressed a trending online incident with humour, offering light-hearted remarks during the 2025 Annual Media Summit held on Wednesday.
In a light moment, Kabogo joked about the attention his dressing had received online, saying he took a quick survey of the room to see if any of the other men were wearing trousers that touched their shoes—none were.
“Nimeangalia suruali za wenzangu kama kuna moja imeguza kiatu nikapata hakuna. Lakini Wakenya hivyo ndivyo walivyo,” he said with a smile.
This is loosely translated to, “I looked at the trousers of other men here to see if any were touching the shoes—I found none. But Kenyans, that’s just how they are.”
Kabogo said he has learned not to take such chatter too seriously, adding that he actually enjoys the public's reactions.
“And the beauty is, I truly enjoy it. This is how you should be—just simple, and don’t worry about too many things that people say,” he said.
He advised against dwelling on criticism or online trolling, noting that doing so can make life unnecessarily difficult.
“If you start worrying about what
people say, you’ll have a problem in life taking everything to heart,” he
added.
Kabogo began trending on Saturday,
May 10, with critics questioning his sense of fashion.
This follows the circulation of a photo of the CS in pristine white
shirt, a red necktie, beige trousers, a pair of brown striped socks, and safari boots.
While sitting in his chair, Kabogo looks like someone thinking about
something that is bothering him, and seems to be caught on camera from the side,
without him noticing.
Critics also resorted to mocking his skills in ICT matters.
This is not the first time that Kabogo is responding to the chatter. On
Tuesday, he tweeted, “I’m enjoying it, if no one makes such, you need to be very
worried.”
