
A family is mourning after their one-and-a-half-year-old son drowned in a well in Adungosi, Teso, Busia County.
The deceased was playing with
other siblings within their compound when the incident happened on May 12,
2025, police said.
He slipped into the 25-foot
deep well and drowned.
The other siblings alerted the
parents, who were on a nearby farm and rushed to the scene, but they could not
help him.
The body was retrieved minutes
later and taken to a local mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.
Officials have advised that
those with family wells should be well covered as part of
efforts to address such accidents.
Meanwhile, at least six people were
separately found dead after suspected suicide missions.
The majority of the victims were men, police
said.
There has been an increase in cases of
suicide incidents, statistics show.
The first incident happened in Mirangine,
Nyandarua, where one Benson Nyaramba Mwangi, 23, was found dead and the body
hanging from a tree on his father's land.
The body was discovered on May 12 and was
moved to JM Kariuki Hospital Mortuary, Olkakau, awaiting postmortem.
In Port Victoria, Busia, one Cosmas Okotsi
Bwire, 79, was found dangling from the roof truss with a wire tied around his
neck inside his house within Siginga village.
The body with no visible injuries was moved
to Port Victoria General Hospital mortuary, awaiting postmortem.
In Ekerenyo, Nyamira County, the body Shem
Maoga Nyamao, 52 was found hanging from a tree at Nyabitango village on May
10.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending
autopsy.
In Tabaka, Kisii County, at Ikoba trading
centre, the body of a ten-year-old boy was found hanging from a door frame
inside his elder brother’s incomplete house with a sisal rope tied around his
neck.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the
deceased was last seen alive by his mother on May 11 and was instructed to take
a bath and wash his dirty clothes.
He washed the clothes and wore them while wet
and left home for an unknown place.
It wasn't until the body was found.

In Kandara, Muranga County, one Peter
Kinuthia Njuguna, 54 was found dead in his kitchen after a suicide mission.
His body was found hanging on a sisal rope on
May 11.
The body was moved to Montezuma Monalisa
Funeral Home, Kabati, awaiting postmortem.
In Mutomo, Kitui County, one Willy Musango, 48, died by suicide after swallowing a poisonous chemical.
Police said they recovered a 250 ml empty
bottle of Termitop 450 EC next to his body, which had foam coming from the
mouth. The body was moved to Mutomo Level Four mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Cases of suicide have been on the rise.
Police say the trend has been worrying and increasing, with up to two cases reported daily.
