The National Transport and Safety Authority( NTSA) has asked the public to be cautious about a fake TikTok account that swindles money from people.

The account has been impersonating the transport and safety authority with posts about them. NTSA has denied claims of having a TikTok account.

In a statement on X, the transport authority has requested the public not to send personal information to anyone if it is not through the eCitizen.

“Never share personal information with anyone,” NTSA stated.

The authority has stated that their communications are made only through its official accounts on X- @ntsa_kenya, Facebook - NTSA KENYA, YouTube channel - NTSA_Kenya and the Website – http://ntsa.go.ke.

In addition, the public is urged not to engage but to report immediately if they  come across any  suspicious account claiming to belong to the authority.

“Members of the public conned through such platforms should immediately report to the nearest police station for further action,” NTSA noted.

Furthermore, the authority has noted that all NTSA service applications and payments are made only through the eCitizen platform.

The announcement comes a month after the Nursing Council of Kenya, through a statement on Thursday, April 10,  issued a similar warning to Kenyans on job swindlers purporting to be from the council who are offering fake jobs.

The council,  however, urged Kenyans receiving such phone calls to get in touch with them and share the individual's mobile number or report them to security agencies.

The trend of fake accounts in Kenya, particularly on social media, is a growing concern, impacting various sectors in society.

These fake accounts are used for a range of purposes, including manipulating public opinion, spreading misinformation, and even defrauding individuals.

The presence of fake accounts has damaged the reputation of businesses and individuals, as users  encounter spam or scams, which  deter them from engaging with a platform or individual.
