MP Njeri Maina, Hanifa shine at Thamani Awards

Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan also won an award.

Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina and social media activist Hanifa Adan on Sunday received awards from the Thamani Awards in a ceremony held at KCB Leadership Centre in Nairobi.

MP Njeri received the Voice of Reason Award, while Hanifa Adan won The Best Social Media Impact 2025.

Speaking after the awards, MP Njeri expressed her gratitude for being considered for the award, even as she thanked all those who took part in voting.

“To everyone who voted for me, this is our win. I am truly grateful for your continued support. To my people who showed up and showed out, I am indebted to your kindness and love. Truly, where God leads, He provides,” she said.#

Busia Woman Rep Catherine Omanyo was presented with the Most Outstanding Educationist Award.

Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan was also feted.

She received the Historical Lifetime Achievement Award, which was received on her behalf by Balozi wa Mama Dr. Cassypool Capon, a Kenyan entertainment commentator, and top Tanzanian actress Wellu Sengo, who won East Africa Best Actress 2025.

While presenting the award, Economic Planning PS Boniface Makokha noted that leaders must know the way and lead by example in going that way.

“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way. This emphasises the importance of leading by example, while ‘good leaders must first become good servants’ highlights the importance of putting others first. Ultimately, leadership is about empowering others and making a difference in their lives,” he said.

The Best Executive 2025 Award went to Dr. Asha Mohamed, the Head of Delegation and Permanent Representative to the African Union.

The award was presented to her by Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango.
