Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has defended Kenya Kwanza’s track record since taking over the leadership of the country in 2022.
Speaking during a meeting with Nyandarua County opinion leaders and legislators at his Karen residence, Kindiki highlighted some of the key achievements, including stabilising the economy by strengthening the Kenyan shilling against the Dollar among other interventions.
He also cited the reduction in prices of food, prices of fuel, as well as improved milk, tea and coffee prices compared to when they came into office.
“In Mt Kenya, the coffee, tea and milk sectors were doing badly. The Coffee we found selling for Sh60 today, a kilo goes from between Sh120 to Sh150. The work of stabilising the economy is what we have been focused on for the last two years,” Kindiki said.
The Deputy President expressed confidence that the administration’s track record will vindicate its agenda when elections come.
He dismissed opposition leaders for inciting the public against the Kenya Kwanza, insisting that the administration’s focus is on service delivery to the people.
Kindiki warned critics to brace for a political showdown in 2027.
“A good leader focuses on the right thing at the right time, and we are prioritising development now, we will fully dive into politics when the time comes, and we know how to do it perfectly," Kindiki said.
“We are focused on service delivery for the people of Kenya, including the good people of Nyandarua. This is what we are doing now because we will face a test at the end of this term to showcase what we have done. All of us, including those in the opposition, have had an opportunity to serve, and we will all be tasked to reveal our scorecards."
The DP faulted the opposition for being interested in political gimmicks, useless rhetoric, and advancing division.
“The group tells the people it's not important to develop our country, but to engage in political exchanges from Monday to Sunday. They have incited wananchi with cheap talk to reject development in preference to useless talk.
“Then, our group, which has sworn that whatever happens, day and night, left, right or centre, back or forward, the country, including Nyandarua County, must develop because this is what the people who elected us deserve. We are working to expedite projects and programs as instructed by the President. It's my work as the principal assistant to do follow-ups to ensure they are implemented as planned and on time.”
Kindiki pledged sustained focus on grassroots development, vowing to oversee the implementation of pledges made during county forums.
He reiterated his commitment to ensuring President William Ruto’s development promises materialise equitably across all regions, urging patience as reforms take root.
“Our focus remains on service, not political noise,” he stated.
The consultative meeting included Nyandarua MPs Faith Gitau ( Woman Rep, Nyandarua), Kwenya Thuku (Kinangop), Michael Muchira (Oljororok), George Gachagua (Ndaragwa), and Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah.
