Tourism and Wildlife CS Rebecca Miano has come to the defence of President William Ruto in the face of growing criticism by the opposition as the 2027 campaign steam begins to hot up.
In a statement released by on Saturday by State House, Miano shared her take on the President's track record since he came into office barely two years ago.
The CS took a swipe at Ruto critics saying their attacks on the President are tastament to his good work.
"For a leader, criticism is part of the gig. It’s not a sign they are doing something wrong. It’s a sign they are out front, making moves, and taking responsibility," she said.
"Criticism isn’t about the leader, it’s about the critic’s perspective, their interests, fears, biases or expectations. A leader’s job isn’t to please everyone. it’s to stay aligned with their responsibility, their manifesto and their vision," she added.
Miano said that Ruto’s impact, resilience and ability to inspire other leaders is remarkable.
The CS commended the President for being a focused, determined, courageous and committed leader who's making a notable difference in Kenya.
Miano gave highlights of the gains Kenya has made since Ruto came to power in Septermber 2022.
She said under Ruto's leadership, the economy has improved to bein ranked the 6th largest in Africa.
The Kenya shilling, she said, is amongst the best performing in the world against the dollar and the exchange reserves have grown significantly.
The prices of coffee and tea have greatly improved and mports of most foods like sugar and rice have reduced, she added.
Miano further listed food production which she said has increased due to the susbsidised fertiliser programme.
She said the affordable housing programme is on course to restoring living dignity of many Kenyans while the universal health coverage is on course to changing the health dynamics in Kenya.
The CS fruther enumerated the gains made in the education sector saying the historic huge budgetary allocations are testament to the improvement of education.
Miano said the improved ICT connectivity across the country has also taken innovation and the creative economy to a new level while the tourism sector, which is under her leadership is experiencing significant growth and reinforcing Kenya as a premier global destination.
On matters relating to safeguarding the future of senior citizens and ensuring they retire and live in dignitiy, Miano said Ruto has changed the saving infrastructure and the country is steadily moving towards doubling NSSF savings.
"The people who criticise him the loudest are the ones who aren’t in the leadership arena with him. They’re not taking the risks, they’re not leading the charge, they have no duty or direct responsibility to the people of Kenya," Miano said.
"Kudos Your Excellency President William Ruto for your inspiration," the CS said.
