Wetang’ula calls for speedy probe into Were murder

He said all CCTV footages in Parlaiment should be looked into to help with the probe.

Mourners gathered at the Consolata Shrine to pay their last respects to the late Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were on Wednesday.

Gynsen Were, the daughter of the deceased, expressed profound grief, stating; “In death I love you still daddy; no one could ever fill the space you left in my heart.”

Boyd Were, the MP’s firstborn son called for a swift investigation into his father’s death, urging police to uncover the motive and those responsible.

“As a family, we need to know who sent for my father to be killed,” he said.

Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula, ordered in his tribute, for the security footage from Parliament, where the MP was last seen to be scrutinised to help in the investigations.

He also ordered an audit of all parliamentary bodyguards.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi echoed the call for justice as he gave his tribute for the late MP.

National Assembly Chief Whip Sylvanus Osoro appreciated the efforts made so far by the security officers in arresting suspects, and emphasised that there was a need for the police to also unravel the mystery behind the killing and identify the masterminds.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi reassured Kenyans that the government will not stop until they bring to book all those involved in his murder.

“No stone shall be left unturned until all those who planned and committed this heinous crime are apprehended plus their sponsors and eventually justice served,” Wandayi said.

On the other hand Junet Mohammed requested the nation to respect the politicians and not celebrate in times of their death but rather deal with them during the elections.

“I would like to ask Kenyans not to rejoice when a politician dies because they are also humans with families and should be respected “he noted.

MP Millie Odhiambo condemned the manner in which the member of parliament was murdered noting that this is not the first time that an Mp has been killed.

Political leaders from different parts of the country were present to honour the life of the late MP as they passed their condolences to the family and the people of Kasipul at large.

Police have arrested six individuals in connection with the murder of the former Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were.
