The government plans to establish 14 new police stations in Tiaty Constituency as part of efforts to enhance security and address rampant insecurity in the region.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced the initiative Friday during a visit to the area, revealing that two police stations will be set up in each of the seven wards.

"Bwana DIG (Eliud Lagat) enda upange the budget; nitakuonyesha mahali tutaenda kutafuta hiyo pesa.(Go prepare the budget, and I will ensure we find the funds)," he said.

Lagat was among the top security officers who accompanied him.

Emphasising the urgent need for increased security presence in Tiaty, Murkomen said it was unfortunate that despite the constituency’s vast size and persistent insecurity challenges, it currently has only four police stations.

“It is unacceptable that a chief is expected to recover stolen livestock with just four police stations across such a large area. We cannot allow this situation to continue,” he said.

"This Tiaty we must open it, there is no need for us all from the entire Baringo, Turkana, Samburu, West Pokot, and Elgeiyo Marakwet cry for Tiaty."

The CS made the remarks during a meeting with the Baringo County security committee at Kambi Samaki.

The meeting was convened to assess progress in ongoing security operations targeting banditry and cattle rustling in the region.

Murkomen at the same time noted that the Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU) and other interventions in the Kerio Valley have helped restore peace and stability.

To sustain the gains, he said, the government is strengthening collaboration between communities, security personnel, and administrative officers.

“We are also gathering insights from officers on the ground to close any gaps in our strategy,” he added.

The CS has held similar meetings in Elgeyo Marakwet and Isiolo counties, bringing together the Rift Valley Regional Security Team and sub-county security teams from Marigat, Baringo North, Mukutani, Baringo West, Kolowa, Tiaty Central, and Tiaty East.

Also present were Assistant County Commissioners, Officers Commanding Stations, Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs, DIG-APS Gilbert Masengeli, and Anti-Stock Theft Unit Commandant Joseph Limo.

Others were Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Abdi Hassan, Regional Police Commander Jasper Ombati, Baringo County Commissioner Stephen Sankolo, County Police Commander Julius Kiragu, and other senior ministry officials.
