Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have visited the scene where Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were was shot dead on Wednesday, April 30, evening.

The homicide unit visited the City Mortuary roundabout along Ngong Road, where the MP was gunned down by unknown assailants riding a motorcycle.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

“Following the shooting to death of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were last evening, the Inspector General of Police has assured me that investigations have advanced,” Murkomen said.

He called on agencies handling the case to act swiftly.

“I urge the investigative agencies to move with speed and thoroughness and bring those involved to book,” he added.

Murkomen sent condolences to the MP’s loved ones.

“I once again send my heartfelt condolences to the family of Hon Were, the people of Kasipul and the nation at large for this tragic loss,” he said.

President William Ruto also called for a thorough investigation into the fatal shooting of MP Charles Ong’ondo, urging the police to ensure that those behind the killing are brought to justice.

In a condolence message on Thursday, the President expressed sorrow over the lawmaker’s death and offered prayers for his family and constituents.

"May God grant the family and the people of Kasipul strength to bear with the loss of Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were," said Ruto.

He called on the National Police Service to swiftly investigate the incident and hold the perpetrators accountable.

"We urge the police to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident. Those responsible must be held to account."

MP Were was shot dead on Wednesday night along Ngong Road near City Mortuary. Police believe the killing was targeted and predetermined.
