Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has continued to hold meetings with key political figures as he gears up to unveil his party next month.

A day after meeting opposition leaders, Gachagua met former Cabinet Secretaries Mithika Linturi and Justin Muturi.

On Tuesday, Gachagua met former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i in a meeting that was also attended by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua (PLP), Eugene Wamalwa (DAP-K), Mukhisa Kituyi, Linturi and Muturi.

After Wednesday’s meeting, Gachagua posted pictures of the trio on X and quoted renowned author Chinua Achebe:

“When we gather together in the moonlit village ground, it is not because of the moon. Every man can see it in his own compound. We come together because it is good for kinsmen to do so.”

Reacting to the meeting, Former CS Muturi confirmed that their mission is one.

“Like rivers that converge to swell the tide, today we consulted with H.E. Rigathi Gachagua and Hon. Mithika Linturi, three voices, one mission: to steady the boat and chart a wiser course for our people. When the winds shift, the wise don’t drift, they consult,” he said.

According to Gachagua’s close allies, the new party will reveal its name, slogan, and colours during the initial unveiling in mid-May, followed by a grand political jamboree later in the month.

Gatanga MP Edward Muriu is reported to have confirmed the timeline.

“We are going to unveil the new party on May 15. This will be followed by an official launch on May 29.”

Tuesday’s meeting was Matiang'i's first-ever public appearance with Gachagua's camp, ending speculations about his political allegiance ahead of 2027.

The high-stakes meeting in Nairobi is part of a series of high-profile engagements organised by the opposition as part of early efforts to build a national movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Following his quiet return to the country from the United States, it was unclear whether Matiang'i would have been present.

Over the past week, he has held closed-door meetings with key regional and national leaders, with insiders suggesting he prefers private engagements over public appearances.

Matiang’i, who returned to the country recently, has yet to comment on his rumoured 2027 presidential ambitions.
