Nyeri woman shot and wounded, robbed Sh160,000

CRIME SCENE

An Mpesa attendant was shot and wounded in a robbery incident in Mukurweini, Nyeri County.

The incident happened on Saturday night in Kiahungu Township as the woman was walking home after the day’s business, police said.

She told police she was in the company of another woman when they were attacked by two men one of whom was armed with a pistol.

The robbers grabbed Sh160,000 in cash, three mobile phones, and assorted goods from the woman before she was shot in the right leg.

This was after she tried to resist the robbery.

The assailants fled to an unknown destination leaving the victim bleeding.

The other woman escaped unhurt. Police say they suspect the victim was trailed by the assailants before being attacked.

The victim was taken to Mukurweini Sub County Hospital for treatment. Police said she is in a stable condition.

Police said efforts to apprehend the suspects are underway.

Elsewhere in Ngomeni, Magarini, a man was found with gunshot wounds in a thicket.

The incident happened within the Shamba La Mungu area, which is within the larger Mwingi National Reserve, police said.

The man aged 38 was found lying in the thicket with a gunshot wound on the right side of his lower abdomen.

It was determined that the attack was carried out by perpetrators who escaped the scene.

He was immediately taken to Ngomeni Hospital for initial treatment and later referred to Mwingi Level IV Hospital for further medical care.

Police said they are pursuing the gunmen behind the incident.

Meanwhile, police are investigating a murder in an incident where a 23-year-old man died after a fight with another man over a wheelbarrow in Kasagam, Kisumu County.

The deceased was identified as Edward Otieno Oyuru.

He sustained head injuries and was rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital where he succumbed to the same.

His body was moved to the hospital morgue awaiting a postmortem examination.

Police said they are looking for the suspect behind the incident as part of the probe into the murder.
