Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has a chance to upset critics in the political battle pitting him against Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, analysts say.

However, he has his work cut out to turn the onslaught around and block any attempts to remove him from the second most powerful perch in the land.

The battle lines have been drawn, with 69 of the 87 MPs from Mt Kenya endorsing Kindiki as their link to President William Ruto’s administration.

Last Wednesday, 300 MCAs endorsed the Interior CS at a Murang’a meeting against Gachagua’s 50 who staged a walkout.

More than 2,000 elders of the influential Njuri Ncheke council in Meru and Embu's Ngome and Nyangi Ndiiriri councils have also said “Kindiki tosha”.

The CS’s backers want him to represent their interests in government, owing to his office’s role in coordinating national administration.
