Previous holders of Inspector General of Police position

Since the enactment of the new constitution in 2010, there have been four Inspector General.

Douglas Kanja is set to be the fifth one after swearing-in. Senate approved Kanja as new IG on August 20, 2024. 

IG is the highest-ranked officer of the Kenya Police Force. The position was established in 1964 as the commissioner of police.

It was renamed to inspector general of police in 2012.
