The 2016 Rio Olympic Games silver medallist Julius Yego says it will require a 90m+ throw to clinch the Paris Olympic title at the Stade de France on Thursday.

The 2015 world champion stormed the final with a season's best of 85.79m on Tuesday morning to rank second in Group 'A', behind German Julian Weber ( 87.76m). Vadjech Jakub was third in 85.63m.

"Next is to make a huge throw in the final. Winning in that roaring crowd inside the Stade de France will require 90m+," he said.

He was impressed with himself after a turbulent season, which saw him qualify for the Games through the rankings.

"It was good. I liked it. I am better technically and the speed is back. My greatest happiness is to have the feel of throwing back. It made the difference," he said.

"Proper technique is my focus... to maintain the momentum and, finally, a huge throw."

He liked the atmosphere inside the packed stadium. Very good for javelin, especially,  the runway," he observed.

Yego pitched camp at Team Kenya training camp pre-Games camp in Miramas and observed it was a masterstroke.

"It was the best decision to go there. I talked with my manager (about it) and he advised me to. Nock also did great in allowing me to train there, " he observed.

"Perfect place for my pre-Paris training. We focused on technique and speed. My strength is in speed since I am not a powerful thrower."

He added: "You know what I have been through this season. I needed that throw to prove that I can do it. It even made me think "maybe I have more years to throw. didn't struggle."

Yego said: "I am excited to have a season's best and to throw past 80 metres after a long time. Let's hope I will have a better throw on Thursday," he said.

However, Yego is craving for company."I love the sport and wish we had many Kenyans taking up javelin. I am almost exiting but we don't have anyone coming up to compete at the top level - Olympics and World Championships," he said.

"I wish we could have someone or corporate to sponsor javelin, alone. I have done what I could, and opened the way, like Ferdinand (Omanyala) has done in the sprints. We don't have the support... real support, not just talk."
