Former Nairobi Mayor Joe Aketch is among politicians who on Wednesday unveiled a lobby group that will traverse the country to market President William Ruto’s agenda.
Dubbed 'Ruto Reloaded Movement', the team said it will lead a national campaign to sensitise Kenyans about the Kenya Kwanza achievements over the last two years.
At a press conference in Nairobi on Wednesday, the RRM said it will soon unveil a nationwide calendar for its meet the people tours to showcase President Ruto’s achievements.
Aketch who is the patron of the RRM group said the motivation behind the formation of the group is lack of information on the government’s progress among Kenyans.
Aketch noted that the RRM group is in support of the positive achievements witnessed across the country since President Ruto was elected.
"We note the accomplishments and gains that the government has tirelessly delivered to Kenyans," he said flanked by the group’s officials.
"We encourage the President to continue with his agenda for Kenya. We remind our fellow Kenyans to appreciate the progress made.”
The group denied that it is an amorphous team of select politicians seeking relevance in government saying it has tentacles spread across all the 47 counties.
“We are a national movement with representation across the country,’’ said RRM chairperson Jacob Karanja.
The movement said its immediate assignment will be to amplify the President’s achievements since coming into office through targeted public and town hall meetings.
Asked about their ultimate objective, Karanja said they hope to have a public that is more informed about the government’s projects and programmes.
Karanja said there is an information gap because elected leaders, whom he noted are supposed to advance the government's messaging at the grassroots, have allegedly slept on their job.
"We are here to bridge that gap," he said.
Karanja regretted that while the government has achieved a lot in addressing the cost of living that weighed down Kenyans, little information is available to Kenyans.
The lobby said it will stand to support the president's initiatives for unprecedented growth across all sectors.
"Your(Ruto’s) determination has laid a solid foundation for a thriving economy that include access to affordable healthcare," he said.
"The cost of living has significantly gone down, the cost of a two kilogramme of Unga is retailing at Sh130 down from Sh230.’’
Commenting on the alleged rift between the president and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, the leaders said they will preach unity and denounce divisions in government.
They argued that the president is the ‘’driver’’ of the government.
"For us we are pro-the president and his vision for this country, we shall not take sides but propagate the agenda of the country," Karanja said.
"We are behind the president and the unity of Kenya, we don't want to see divisions in government.’’
