A man who impersonated former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Facebook to defraud unsuspecting members of the public will today plead to charges afresh.
This is after the prosecution agreed to his application on the plea bargain.
Kangere will appear before Milimani senior principal magistrate Gilbert Shikwe.
John Kengere is accused of creating a Facebook account using the name Mike Mbuvi Sonko Rescue Loans without the authority of the former governor.
He is said to have committed the offence on September 15, 2023, at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya.
Two weeks ago he had sought to have a plea bargain with the prosecution.
Also in courts, two foreign nationals and a Kenyan who were arrested for alleged involvement in drug trafficking will on Friday appear in court today.
During their arrest, the three who were in a hideout in Kasarani were allegedly found to be in possession of cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine, police said.
They were arrested by the anti-narcotic officers, on Friday.
The Director of Criminal Investigations said the drugs allegedly found in their possession were valued at over Sh1.3 million.
Also recovered during the raid were three weighing machines and various packaging materials.
“Suspects and the seizure taken into custody pending court processes,” DCI said.
The arrest comes barely two weeks after another foreign suspect was arrested in Kisauni, Mombasa after he was allegedly found with 200g of cocaine with an approximated street value of Sh600,000.
