In courts today

The hearing of six people charged with the murder of former Kabete MP George Muchai resumes today.

Eric Isabwa alias chairman, Raphael Kimani alias Kim Butcher, Mustapha Kimani alias Musto, Stephen Astiva alias Chokore, Jane Wanjiru alias Shiro, Margaret Njeri and Simon Wambugu have been on trial since 2015 when they were charged with the offence.

They have denied murdering the former lawmaker, his two bodyguards and a driver.

Chief Government pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor who gave his evidence last year said Muchai was shot at close range with either a G3 rifle or AK47 gun.

He told the court that the gunshot entered through the right side of his abdomen to his right nipple.

The government pathologist who conducted the postmortem on Muchai's body told the court that the former MP was dressed in a stained black suit at the time his body was taken to Lee Funeral Home in February 2015, for postmortem.

He said Muchai had a white shirt and a white vest.

In his postmortem report, Dr Oduor said Muchai had lost a lot of blood which explained the pale condition his body was in.

He had rib fractures and there was bleeding on both sides of his chest.

The postmortem report indicated that Muchai’s heart was mildly enlarged.

He assumed he might have been hypertensive. His liver weighed 1,500 grams meaning it was fatty. His stomach was normal, it contained food.

Court to Issue Directions in Echesa's Sh39 billion fake arms deal case

The court is set to issue directions in a case in which four businessmen are charged alongside former sports CS Rashid Echesa over fraud in the Sh39 billion fake arms deal.

The four are Daniel Omondi alias General Juma, Kennedy Mboya, Crispin Odipo and Clifford Onyango.

Case against Ayub Savula regarding Sh140 million advertising tender theft proceeds today

The hearing of Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula in the Sh140 million advertising tender theft is scheduled to proceed today.

On February 5 this year, Former ICT Principal Secretary Sammy Itemere who was also implicated in the case was set free by the courts.

This was after the ODPP made a withdrawal application, stating that a review of the charges against 13 found insufficient evidence to sustain the charges.

Also released were Edith Nkanata, Amos Matanga, Gladys Bwora, Gladys Mwanyika, Jesca Ateka, Rachael Wanjiru, Nellie Kibocha, Sammy Makau, Martin Njoroge, Hannah Wangari, Edmundi Munene and Victor Owin.

But the trial against Savula is going on.
