Tuya releases lists of CSs leading tree planting exercise this week

This exercise will start on May 13 with AG Muturi planting trees at Ngong Hills Forest in Kajiado County.

The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry has released a list of the Cabinet members leading in the tree planting exercise from Monday, May 13, to Friday, May 17.

According to the schedule, Attorney General Justin Muturi will lead the exercise on Monday at Ngong Hills Forest in Kajiado County.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu will take over the activity on Tuesday.

He will be joining the residents of Trans Nzoia County in Sosio, Saboti, Kapolet and Saiwa Swamp.

On Wednesday, Blue Economy CS Salim Mvurya will lead the tree planting and growing exercise in Tana River County at Hirimana and Mwinai Forest.

In Lamu County, CS Mvurya will be at Pandanguo and Lake Kenyatta.

Tourism CS Alfred Mutua will on Thursday lead the exercise in Kitui County at Muumoni and Itikoni Wetland and Taita Taveta County at Lake Jipe Wetland.

Lastly, on Friday, Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir will be in Kericho and Baringo Counties.

He will join the public at Londiani and Kapnawai Wetlands in the former and Narasha, Mukutani Forest, Koibatek Forest and Kamnarok Wetland in Baringo.

The list was released days after President William Ruto announced that the tree-planting exercise will continue for the next six months beginning Monday.

Speaking at Karua grounds in Maragua, Murang'a County after planting trees on Friday, he said CSs would be at the forefront of the activity.

Ruto said every ministry will have a day in which staff of various departments and agencies will plant trees in the specific areas they have been assigned.

He added that this will be followed by all the other ministries until the government achieves the target of 15 billion trees by 2032.

The President said the government was keen on increasing the country's forest cover from 12 per cent to 30 per cent.
