A woman in alleged nursing certificate fraud case has been released on Sh300,000 cash bail.

Christine Nyambura Muturi has been released after being charged with cheating after allegedly pretending she could train and issue nursing certificates from an uncredited institution.

Muturi, who was arrested last week did not appear physically for the case which was on Monday, since she checked herself into a Nairobi hospital.

According to the charge sheet, Nyambura allegedly obtained a total of Sh1,092,000 from four individuals.

The court heard that the accused induced her victims into paying college fees for a certified nursing assistant course at a school which is not accredited by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority.

"Christine Nyambura Muturi between March 24, 2023 and April 30, 2023, in Gigiri area within Nairobi County jointly with others not before court by means fraudulent tricks induced Gina Nuta to pay a sum of Sh250,000 to account domiciled at Kenya Commercial Bank pretending that you were in a position to train and issue her with a certificate in Certified Nurse Assistance from Westwick Institute Limited which is not accredited by Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority," Count one read.

Nyambura faced a total of seven charges of cheating and one of offering training in an institution without accreditation, licensing and registration.

"Christine Nyambura Muturi on diverse dates between January 20, 2023 and February 27, 2024 in Gigiri area within Nairobi County jointly with others not before the court, being the director of Westwick Institute Limited offered training in Certified Nurse Assistance without accreditation, licensing and registration by Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority," the charge read.

The matter was presented before Kiambu Senior Principal Magistrate Meresia Opondo, who alternatively gave the accused a bond of Sh500,000.

Nyambura was also ordered to deposit her passport in court and provide one contact person.

The matter will be mentioned on July 2, 2024.
