Celebrated TV journalist Stephen Letoo has given in to pressure and resigned as chairman of Men's Conference with immediate effect.

His resignation comes at a time when the men have been accusing him through social media of "preaching wine while taking water" by not embracing polygamy.

Letoo has been publicly advocating for polygamy but during his public wedding held at the William ole Ntimama stadium on April 20, the Citizen TV Journalist wedded only one wife contrary to the expectation of many of his fans.

The senior political reporter has in recent days come under intense pressure on social media where adherents to the Men's Conference challenged him to relinquish the cahrimanship post to someone else to take the group to another level.

Speaking after cutting short his holiday in Zanzibar on Tuesday evening, Letoo said he had decided to come to Kenya to address the pertinent issues revolving around his post in the Men's Conference.

"After soul searching, I have arrived at a decision to step down as the chairman of the Men's conference and I have tendered my resignation to the office of the Men's Conference based in Nairobi and I will cease being the chairman with immediate effect,” Letoo said.

He added that he arrived at the decision after wide consultations with friends and allies in Kenya and beyond.

“I will allow my members to seek my replacement and I want to assure them that I will be available for consultations and any advice, if they seek it,” he said.

Men's Conference national secretary general Festus Rotich alias Pinamba and Patron Brian Mwendwa acknowledged receipt of the resignation letter.

"We are now in the process of recruiting a new chairperson and we will unvail the advert for the vacant position in the daily newspapers from next week," Rotich said.

Letoo said that it was difficult to fill the shoes of the former chairman, the late Mzee Jackson Kibor.

He said that it will be equally difficult to fill his shoes as well  in the management of men’s affairs.

Letoo thanked all the men for giving him full cooperation for one and half years he has been in office saying it has been a success.

"I want to encourage the incoming chairman that being the head of men is not for the faint-hearted people and I want him to continue to advocate for rights of boy-child and men regardless of who they are, whether single, married, polygamous or any other status,” Letoo said.

He highlighted his achievements such as mental health for men and the safety campaign launched in February which he said was a success.
