Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has asked the city county residents to contact helpline 1508 in case they need assistance, especially during the rainy season.

He stated that those who are yet to receive help can reach out to the county government either through the sub-counties or through the helpline.

"In case you need help, at the sub-counties we have joint teams - the Deputy County Commissioners and the Sub-County Administrators," Sakaja said.

"The helpline is 1508. When you call this number and describe your situation, there will be someone on the other end who can direct you on what to do."

Sakaja mentioned that individuals can call for assistance, whether it's related to floods, psychosocial support, counseling, or even feeding issues.

He was speaking during an interview with The Star on Tuesday.

The Governor warned off those faking the need for help, saying when floods began, the county got a list of those affected.

He noted that people who are not affected by the ongoing rains and floods have been trying to access the funds given to those in need.

"Do not do that. Ni laana ukisema umepata mkasa na hujapata (It is a curse to claim you have a disaster when you don't)," he warned.

"Let the victims get the help they need."

On April 18, the government through the Ministry of Interior and National Administration advised Kenyans in flood-prone areas to seek help via the toll-free line 0800-721-571 in case of emergency.

Interior PS Raymond Omollo also urged the public to remain vigilant and to follow periodic evacuation advisories issued by government and humanitarian agencies.

"Report emergencies promptly through the toll-free line: 0800-721-571. Together, let us stay prepared and resilient," Omollo said.

Earlier, Kilifi county government issued a toll-free number to aid its residents in case of flooding in their locality.

While urging the public to take caution on the possibility of flooding in the prone areas, the county said residents can use number 1535.
