Equity shut out Engineers to top league

Equity Bank shot to the top of the Kenya Handball Federation (KHF)  league after running over  Engineers 28-19 in a match played at Nyayo Stadium yesterday.

The bankers, who lead the table with 30 points, rattled the soldiers with hard shots taking a 17-6 first-half margin.

Equity occasionally played without a goalkeeper but still proved a handful for Engineers. Brian Muraguri and Randy Stower bagged seven goals each.

"It was not a tough game. What impressed me more was the fitness level of my players. They never showed signs of fatigue," offered coach Peter Mwathi.

"The boys are well-conditioned. We didn't make many mistakes and I  only substituted because I had to do that to give all players a breather."

Engineers tactician Albert Mukoya said his boys displayed a good game but were unlucky to lose. Nelson Wanjala led with four goals. " 

"There are mistakes I saw like passes, aggression and conversion rates. These I will rectify during our training this week before our next match," he said. The bankers had thrashed the Buccaneers 40-19 the previous day.

It was a bad weekend for the Buccaneers as Kenyatta University ran over them 41-27. Alex Ondiejon and Joseph Osinde grabbed eight goals each. The losers had 11 from Randy Ochieng.

In the women's category, Ulinzi Sharks blanked KU 28-17 behind 12 goals from Sharon Mulei and five a piece from Caren Lutengeya and Dorothy Machuma.

In other matches, champions National Cereals and Produce and Board dismissed Nanyuki 41-24 as KU beat National Youth Service 31-27.
