Governor Bii's team banks on roads to spur economic growth

The county says it opened up more than 45 km of new roads and maintained another 901 km of existing roads

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii’s administration has released its development score card for the past one year.

The county says it opened up more than 45 km of new roads and maintained another 901 km of existing roads.

Roads executive Joseph Lagat said the administration graded more than 800 km and graveled another 101 km.

It also commissioned 135 metres of bridges and culverts.

All these, the county says, were successfully implemented as per expectations and timelines.

Currently, the roads department is working on 2024-2025 financial year projects.

“Our governor is keen on having good roads that will help us engage in gainful economic activities and spur economic growth in all sectors,” Lagat said.

He spoke during a meeting with subcounty engineers, inspectors and surveyors.

The meeting sought to reflect on the infrastructural gains.

“We are also working to address drainage challenges in rural and estates within Eldoret town,” Lagat said.

Development was a key selling point in Governor Bii's manifesto.

"Access roads to markets, bus parks and roads are the key priority areas," he said..

Among areas, where culverts were installed include, Leseru Station-Chemalal Baharini Road and Trinity Mission Hospital in Kamagut ward.

Turbo subcounty and also drainage or road improvement works along  Kibigos - Lagam- Roadblock road and also Marakwet farm (Kiptanui primary school) road in Kuinet Kapsuswa ward.
