Kakamega governor Fernandes Barasa has asked striking doctors to resume work by Friday or face the sack.
Barasa said that the doctors should put the lives of Kenyans first before their interests.
He said that the medics should all resume duty as the two levels of government continue to negotiate with the union.
“We are ready to commence disciplinary measures by firing the striking doctors if they will not report on duty by 8 o’clock tomorrow (Friday),” he said during a presser.
“Any doctor who will fail to abide by this order, which is in line with the Court's direction, will be dismissed.”
Barasa said that some of the issues being raised by the striking medics were already being handled.
He said that the strike has disrupted medical services in health facilities across the county.
He asked sick residents to seek medication in dispensaries because services there are offered by nurses.
