UDA announces leaders meeting for phase one of grassroots polls elections

The meetings are designed to discuss critical aspects of the electoral process

The United Democratic Alliance party is set to have leaders meeting in seven counties ahead of phase one of the grassroot elections.

In a notice on Monday, the chairperson of the UDA National Elections Board, Antony Mwaura announced that the meeting will take place between April 11 and April 15, 2024, at the Hustler Centre.

“In anticipation of Phase 1 of the UDA Grassroots Elections, scheduled for 26th April 2024, we are pleased to invite all county-level aspirants, Constituency-level aspirants, and both elected and nominated leaders from the Phase 1 Counties to a pivotal meeting,” reads the notice.

Mwaura stated that the meetings are designed to discuss critical aspects of the electoral process.

Counties that are set to have the meetings include West Pokot, Narok, Garissa, Busia, Nairobi, Isiolo and HomaBay.

For Nairobi, having the most number of subcounties, its meeting will take place on April 11, 2024, where different subcounties have been allocated specific times.

Leaders meeting for Busia and Homa Bay counties will take place on April 12 while Isiolo and Garissa's meet will happen the next day.

Narok and West Pokot will have their meeting at the Hustler Centre on April 15, 2024.

UDA's first phase will take place on April 26, 2024, in seven counties.

They include Nairobi, Narok, West-Pokot, Busia,  Homabay,  Isiolo and Garissa.

The party will hold the second phase of its grassroots election on June 22, 2024, in 13 counties namely; Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, Nyandarua, Tharaka Nithi, Machakos, Kisii, Bungoma, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Wajir, Tana River, Kwale and Marsabit.

The third phase will be held in the following 15 counties on August 10, 2024; Kiambu, Embu, Kericho, Meru, Migori, Kakamega,  Nyamira, Kitui,  Elgeyo Marakwet, Samburu, Kajiado, Mandera, Kilifi, Murang’a and Lamu.

The last phase will take place on August 24, 2024 in 12 counties.

The counties to participate are Nakuru, Bomet, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Nandi, Baringo, Turkana, Laikipia, Trans-Nzoia, Kisumu, Vihiga and Makueni

It was also stated that the elections will be conducted electronically

Those who intend to vie for polling station positions shall pay a non-refundable fee of Sh200 while those contesting at the ward and constituency levels shall part with Sh1,000 and Sh2,000 respectively.

UDA aspirants at the county level positions shall pay participation fees of Sh20,000 for the chairperson and vice chairperson, Sh10,000 for the secretary, deputy secretary, treasurer and organising secretary.

Other county positions will cost Sh5,000 for aspirants.
