Let's emulate values Tinina stood for, CS Owalo says in tribute

Information Communication and Digital Economy CS Eliud Owalo has called on Kenyans to emulate the values Rita Tinina stood for.

Speaking during the late Journalist's requiem mass at the Holy Family Basilica, Owalo said that Kenyans should also adopt the virtues she lived by into their daily lives.

"To those of us who have remained behind, please let us emulate and exhibit the values that Rita exhibited while at the same time espousing the virtues she stood for," he said.

"On behalf of everybody at the Ministry of Information Communication and the Digital Economy and by extension the executive I sincerely pass our message of condolences to the family, friends of Rita and the entire media fraternity."

Owalo further described Tinina as a distinguished professional and an accomplished journalist.

"Somebody who has devoted over 20 years of her dear life to serve this country with dignity, honesty, integrity and forthrightness," he said.

The mass marked the beginning of Tinina’s final journey.

Tinina is set to be buried on Wednesday, March 27 in Olokirikirai, Narok county.

Her autopsy had earlier revealed that the journalist died of severe pneumonia.

Speaking from Umash Funeral Home, family spokesperson Timothy Njaga said they are satisfied with the results.

The family, friends and colleagues of the late Rita eulogised the scribe as a gentle person who could accommodate anyone.

Speaking during the requiem mass for Tinina, NTV journalist Olive Burrows who read the statement by the family expressed the family's grief and shock following Tinina's untimely demise.

"Umetuwacha kwa mataa," the family wrote.

They eulogised Tininia as a soft-spoken person who listened patiently to everyone.

"We thought you were ours, but numerous tributes have been written, each expressing their personal experience with Rita."
