DJ Joe Mfalme on Sunday broke silence after his arrest in connection with the alleged fatal assault of Kabete Police Station detective Felix Kelian.

Police said they are questioning Joseph Mwenda Munoru popularly known as DJ Joe Mfalme alongside his bouncer, driver and photographer.

Also being questioned are three police officers who attended the accident where the alleged assault occurred, police said.

The officers are accused of negligence following the altercation on March 16.

An autopsy showed that Kelian died from pancreatic complications. He also had injuries on his private parts, the autopsy showed.

In his statement released on March 24, 2024, DJ Joe Mfalme relayed his condolences to the bereaved family, friends and all those impacted by the unfortunate incident that led to the officer's death.

“This is a public statement solely aimed at addressing the recent developments surrounding the regrettable incident that has come to the attention of the general public,” the statement read in part.

"DJ Joe Mfalme and his team are fully committed to participating in the investigative procedure and will continue to extend their cooperation as may be required," it added.

On March 16, DJ Mfalme and his team were headed home in Kikuyu when they were involved in a minor non-injury accident.

Police said his car was scratched in the accident.

This led to an altercation with Kelian before police were called to the scene.

The officers took Kelian to the station where he started to complain of abdominal pain.

He also started urinating blood, witnesses said.

The officer was later taken to hospital where he had an operation but succumbed to his injuries on Friday, March 22, while receiving treatment at Nairobi West Hospital.

The police said they are investigating murder in the incident.

DJ Mfalme reiterated his commitment to cooperate fully as may be required by the investigating authorities.

But while noting the sensitivity of the matter, he said he will not comment further on the issue.

"Given the ongoing investigations and the sensitive nature of the matter, we shall refrain from making any further statements at this time. We shall purpose to update you once the investigations are complete.

He said he trusts that the police will carry out comprehensive and transparent investigations into the matter.

"Once again, we convey our sincerest condolences to the bereaved family and friends affected by this distressing event," said.
