Traffic Court begins exercise to sensitise Kenyans on road safety

The court joined by the stakeholders will transverse Nairobi county

The Milimani Traffic Court on Wednesday began an exercise aimed at sensitising the public on road safety and traffic rules.

Magistrates Susan Shitubi, Martha Nanzushi, Esther Kimilu and Senior Superintendent of Judicial Police Unit Faridah Rotich are leading the exercise dubbed 'Kaa Rada Kwa Rodi'.

"Starting today, tomorrow to Friday, we are getting out. The traffic court plus all stakeholders, Nacada, ODPP, the police, the county and NTSA, it's time to come out and meet them and interact and ask the questions you have always had," Chief Magistrate Shitubi said.

The court joined by the stakeholders will transverse Nairobi county to ensure that traffic laws are observed and road accidents are minimised.

Among the issues they seek to raise concern about are the safety of school children, the issue of reckless driving, handcarts, drunk driving, avoidance of footbridges, jumping over guard rails, not prioritising pedestrians at zebra crossings and hawkers taking over footbridges.

On Wednesday, the Caravan which left Milimani Law Courts at about 10:30 am will move towards Kangundo Road via Ngong Road, NHIF junction, Haile Selassie Avenue, Haile Selassie–Uhuru Highway roundabout.

It will also meet Kenyans along the Moi Avenue roundabout, New Pumwani Road roundabout, Landhies Road, Jogoo Road, Donholm, Outering Road, Taj Mall, North Airport Road, and Eastern Bypass to Kangundo Road junction.

On Thursday, the caravan is expected to start from Milimani Law Courts to Moi Avenue roundabout via Ngong Road, NHIF junction, Haile-Selassie Avenue, Haile-Selassie-Uhuru Highway roundabout.

It will pass by Choo No. 8, New Pumwani Road Roundabout, New Pumwani Road, Ring Road, Pumwani, Juja Road, Outering Road, Allsops, CBD through Super Highway, Murang’a Road, Globe Overpass, Tom Mboya Street, Ronald Ngala, Moi Avenue and Moi Avenue roundabout.

In conclusion, the caravan will on Friday proceed from Milimani Law Courts to the National Archives through Ngong Road, Kenyatta Avenue, Nyayo House roundabout,  Moi Avenue service lane to Kenya National Archives.
