On the radar: Ruto to open EALA plenary sitting in Nairobi

President William Ruto will officially open the special plenary sitting for the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA).

The three-week session of the 5th assembly will end on March 20.

EALA which currently has 63 members from five member states will hold its sitting in Nairobi where they are expected to consider reports by different committees.

It is currently under the chairmanship of the EALA speaker Joseph Ntakirutimana.

According to EALA rules and procedures, the sessions are held on a rotational basis in each of the five member states.

At least two of the sittings out of the six held each year have to take place in Arusha, one of which is the budget session each May or June.

PS Omollo to close Nairobi regional conference

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo will close the meeting on Small Arms and Light Weapons in Nairobi today.

The conference which opened March 4 aims to address challenges posed by the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the Great Lakes and Horn of Africa region.

It was a preparatory meeting for the Fourth Review Conference on the United Nations Programme of Action to prevent, combat and eradicate the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons in all its Aspects (UN PoA) and its international tracing instrument.

CS Kindiki North rift tour 

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kindiki Kithure is expected to intensify his tout in parts of the North rift to address the cattle rustling menace.

MPs extortion case

The hearing of a case against a man who extorted money from MPs using nominated MP Sabina Chege's name is expected to continue.

Burial site dispute 

Hearing of a case where two widows are fighting over where to bury their husband is set to be heard today in court.

Each woman wants the man's remains interred in her compound.
