The race to replace Anne Amadi as the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary intensifies as the Judicial Service Commission shortlists seven candidates.
According to a notice published in local newspapers on Friday, the Commission disclosed that these candidates were selected from a pool of 43 applicants.
"Following the advertisement of the position of the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, the Judicial Service Commission received a total of 43 applicants," part of the notice read.
The seven are Macharia Rose Wachuka, Ouma jack Busalile, Mokaya Frida Boyani, Wambeti Ann Ireri, Ndemo Paul Maina, Kendagor Caroline Jepyegen and Kandet Kennedy Lenkamai.
Ndemo is currently Acting as the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.
The seven were picked after the commission reviewed the applications for completeness and conformity with the constitutional and statutory requirements set out in the advertisement of October 23, 2023.
The Seven candidates are set for the interview scheduled for March 18, 2024.
They have been allocated different times for interviews as listed in the schedule
In addition to that, the Commission has also invited the public to avail in writing any information of interest concerning any of the shortlisted candidates.
The Commission has also highlighted that the information will be kept confidential.
"Please note that the Commission may interview any member of the public who had submitted information on any of the shortlisted candidates and such information shall be kept confidential," reads the notice.
After 10 years of service, former Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi in January stepped down from the position
Amadi held the position of Chief Registrar since January 2014.
Amadi is the only registrar who has sworn in two Heads of state; Former President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017 and President William Ruto in 2022.
On November 25, 2023, Amadi proceeded to terminal leave or transition time.
The Judicial Service Commission already announced the vacancy for the office of Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, which is set to be open on January 13, 2024.
