Taita Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime has cautioned residents against being used by politicians to protest.
Speaking to KBC TV on Friday Mwadime said he was aware of the protest that took place on Thursday in Taveta which he claimed was instigated by other politicians.
“Wananchi wa Taita Taveta jana najua kulikuwa na maandamano huko sehemu za Taveta nawaomba ata kama mnatumiwa na viongozi tafadhali tujaribu kuangalia, nataka maisha yetu yakuwe mema,” Mwadime said.
This is loosely translated to I know that yesterday there was a protest in the Taveta area, I plead with you not to be used by politicians because I want our lives to be better.
He urged the citizens to be aware of the division being created amongst them as it would slow down the construction of the rice mill.
"Taita Taveta University has invented a drought-resistant rice seed which will be processed in the rice mill but if we start protesting it will affect the plan," Mwadime added.
“Let's be patient and let it be known that the leaders who have begun early campaigns are not for you, otherwise we could have united for development.”
He also urged the leaders to unify for development of the counties by working with government and development partners to get funding.
This comes after Deputy Governor Christine Kilalo said they have already advertised the tender to procure and install the plant at Mboghoni ward.
The rice mill factory will cost Sh45 million and is set to be constructed for an increase in rice production.
