The Catholic faithfuls worldwide have begun the 40-day lent period on February 14, ahead of the Easter season where they will celebrate the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Lent season mainly focuses on the Christians' hearts on prayer and daily repentance starting with Ash Wednesday.

Nicholas Mbondi a priest at Wote Diocese has today called upon faithfuls to love their old age parents and support them.

In his lenten sermon in a Holy Mass Wednesday at St Joseph the Worker, Mbondi addressed the suffering that our parents undergo at an old age like boredom, hunger being neglected without a good house and staying in the cold which is too sad.

He said that there are many blessings when we care for parents who brought us now that they are in great need of our help.

"Lent is a period for each one to rethink about their life and correct all bend areas," said Mbondi.

Pupils and faithfuls flocked the church to celebrate Ash Wednesday in a 7.00 am Mass.

The World marks this day by going to church for Catholic Christians and also celebrating love.

Mbondi pressed on the importance of helping the needy and showing love to families too to have an upright society with good morals instilled with God's fear.
