Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has convened one of its party’s top decision-making organ to among others lay ground for his second presidential bid in 2027.

The Star has established that Wiper National Executive Committee will meet on January 16.

The former Vice President who grudgingly stepped down for Azimio leader Raila Odinga in 2022, has made his intent clear on his political future, declaring he will no longer sacrifice his ambition for anyone.

In a recent interview with a local television station, Kalonzo said his march to State House is unstoppable this time round.

He ruled out any chance of supporting Raila again in 2027.

Kalonzo has been Raila’s running mate twice in 2013 and 2017.

“Everyone in this country knows very well who William Ruto's challenger is and he has made it very clear himself. I am waiting for this endorsement by the party and bring it to fruition. I don’t think the coalition will have a problem,” Kalonzo said during the interview.

According to Kalonzo, giving up his presidential bid again will mean he retires from politics.

Kaonzo’s close ally and Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo described 2027 a Kalonzo moment, lauding the Wiper leader as the best candidate to unseat Ruto.

He however warned that the opposition will give Ruto an automatic second and final term if they disintegrate and have more than one candidate on the ballot.

“The government is so sure that Raila and Kalonzo will contest to weaken the opposition but they will be shocked,” he said.

The senator also confirmed that the Wiper’s National Executive Committee will meet on Tuesday to strategise.

“Next Tuesday we have NEC which will be on January 16, to strategise,” he told the Star on phone.

He however did not disclose the agenda of the meeting.

Wiper sources who spoke to the Star in confidence, said the Tuesday strategic meeting will lay ground for ‘hitting the road’ as the ex-VP popularise his bid for the top seat.

“This time round we are not waiting for endorsement, we just want to take our candidate out there in good time, of course he is the best amongst those who have expressed interest,” a second-term Wiper MP told the Star on phone.

According to the script, the Wiper leader will be engaged in meetings across the country even as he leads membership recruitment for his party.

With talks of state plans to front Raila for Africa Union Commission (AUC), Kalonzo is among opposition leaders seen as a potential replacement for the ODM boss.
