Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has said that her son was not arrested as was widely reported.

She said that it is shameful and all propaganda, and should go back to the people who are praying for the downfall of her family.

Kawira said her children are strong and were in church together with her on Sunday.

The governor said that should any member of her family be required by the authorities she will personally take them where they will be needed to answer all questions.

"Kwa wale wanareport vitu ambavyo hawajui, nataka kusema kuna watu wamezungusha ati mtoto wangu ameshikwa porojo tupu na aibu kwenu. Watoto wangu wako imara na wako kanisani pamoja nasi siku ya leo," Mwangaza said at her church on Sunday.

This loosely translates to, "To those who report things they are not aware of. Some circulated reports that my son had been arrested. It's propaganda and shame on you. My children are in church with us today."

"I have a mother, husband, children, brothers and sisters. They should not be looked for by bloggers. Don't look for them on WhatsApp or Facebook. Look for them at my house and I know them all and will give them to you," Mwangaza added.

On Friday, several news outlets and blogs claimed that her son was among suspects who had been arrested by detectives over the murder of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani alias Sniper.

Police on Friday sought 21 days to hold five more suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Sniper.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations said the 21 days will enable them to conclude investigations, noting that more suspects are yet to be arrested.

"The investigations team is seeking vital information... more other suspects who were involved in the murder are yet to be arrested.”

According to the investigators, the deceased was lured by the five suspects through a phone call alleging that a senior county official wanted to meet him.

Sniper disappeared on December 2, before his body was discovered on December 16.

An autopsy conducted on Friday by government pathologist Johansen Oduor at the Marimanti Level 4 Hospital Mortuary showed that Sniper died of strangulation.

He also had fractured ribs and showed injuries on his head which suggested that he was strangled before being thrown into a river.
