President William Ruto has appointed James Kipsiele Tembur as the Director-General of the National Youth Service.
In a gazette notice dated December 19, the President said Kipsiele will serve for three years.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 16 (1) of the National Youth Service Act, 1, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint—James Kipsiele Tembur to be the Director-General of the National Youth Service, for three (3) years," the gazette notice read.
The President said that Kipsiele will assume his roles effective December 20, 2023.
Kipsiele takes over from Matilda Sakwa whose tenure ended in April 2023.
Sakwa had handed over her mandates to James Tembur.
Sakwa had been running the service in an acting capacity after her appointment.
In November, the National Youths Service Commission shortlisted five candidates for the position of Director General and Chief Executive Officer.
The five candidates were scheduled to have their interviews on, December 4, 2023, at the NYS headquarters.
