Celebrated Kenyan entertainer James Muigai alias Dj Afro on Tuesday excited Kenyans who attended and followed the Jamhuri Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens with a one-of-a-kind performance.
In his signature rendition, often heard in his movies, Dj Afro emceed a comedy skit session where he ushered top names in the acting industry to perform.
His transition characterised by his entertaining tonal variation wowed Kenyans as he ushered one actor to another.
The renowned deejay was treated to warm applause from Kenyans who were mesmerized by the style and flow of his performance, which they often hear a voiceover in his movies.
The moment saw several comedians including Inspekta Mwala, Mother in law Charity, Captain Otoyo, Mtumishi, Mchungaji, Wilbroda, Makokha, Terrence Creative, Rukia and Ondiek Nyuka Akwota.
"Alright! Asante sana. Umaridadi," Dj Afro began.
By this time, the celebrated comedians were taking their positions ready for the performance.
"Kikosi kilicho mbele yenu ni kikosi cha wasanii wa sanaa pahali na ambapo kati ya vile vipindi vilivyoweza kuanzishwa ni vipindi kama vile tahamaki, vituko, je huu ni ungwana?" he said.
"Na vipindi kama vile tahusi ulioandaliwa na akiwemo Rukia."
Rukia then immediately took to the stage with her performance.
"Waja, huwa mwatakaje? Kumgonga lindi ni vibaya? Si ni kumrekebisha. Angalia saa hizi mahali yuko, ni mtu wa kutajika. Huyu mama wa kambo naye simjui baba kamtoa wapi,"Rukia said as she threw her hand in the air and walked away.
After Rukia was done with her performance, DJ Afro took over again.
This time, he paid tribute to the late Mzee Ojwang.
"Na vile vile hatuezi tukamsahau bila shaka pale Mzee Ojwang katika kipindi cha Vitimbi. Ishi na Mungu na akamweke pahali pema peponi,"he said.
Legendary comedians Ondiek Nyuka Akwota and Makhoha then took over with their performance.
"Leo ni siku ya Jamhuri na umevaa nguo nikama imetoka kwa mdomo ya ngómbe bwana," Ondiek said as he pulled Makhoha's shirt.
Makhoha responded by saying he is still Kenyan by pointing to his tie to show the same.
He went ahead to reply that he was more patriotic than Ondiek himself who was criticising him.
The two then finished by wishing each other a happy Jamhuri day amidst laughter from the gathering.
DJ Afro once again took the chance to remember the late veteran actor Papa Shirandula after which he ushered in Wibroda.
"Mtukufu Rais, kama vile umeskia mimi ni mjane, niko single, niko vacant. Yaani sina mtu mtuku Rais. Uko na marafiki zako ambao wako single kama mimi hata kwa cabinet uko nao," she said with a broad smile on her face.
She then went ahead to tell the President to remember her as she sang to him Unikumbuke by Tanzania's songstress Christina Shusho.
"Unikumbuke, Baba, unapowazuru wengine naomba unikumbuke,"she sang and finished with a bow.
Mother-in-law actor Charity was then welcomed to the stage to do her part.
Dj Afro introduced her as a strict old lady who was feared and even given the nickname dictator.
She then immediately came in and denied the claims.
"No no no. I am not dictatorial. I am a disciplinarian. I am a born-again-again Christian," she said.
Inspector Mwala was also not left out and he delivered an entertaining performance.
He was dressed in his full police uniform.
"Ninachokuomba kwa sasa sir," he said addressing President Ruto.
"Niteue kama mkuu wa kitengo chako cha presidential escort. Asante sir."
It was now time for Captain Otoyo, Mtumishi and Mchungaji from Churchill Show to give the crows what they had in store for them.
"I have just landed. Your Excellency this is your captain speaking. My name is Captain Otoyo. Kenya is flying at 60 today. Weee si tumezeeka mpaka nchi zingine zinakuja kuona vile nchi mzee inakaa. But old is gold," he said followed by his contagious laughter.
It was now the moment for Terrence Creative also known as Papa Fred Ngamwaya to stage his show.
He walked forward with his dyed blonde hair, a classic display of the Congolese culture.
"Bonjour la Prezida. Kwa majina ni Papa Fred na mi nafanya business legit Nairobi na international. Niko na chemical yangu special. Kama ngapata pesa kidogo mi namwaya ile chemical na tapata besa bingi. Ngalipa deni IMF, ngalipa deni World Bank. Kama pesa nabaki nagawa Kenya mzima, kila mtu two million. We kama napenda idea piga telephone yangu. Tufanye business legit baba,"he said.
The entertainers then walked out of the stage to mark the end of their performance.
The Kenyan band immediately followed.
