President William Ruto on Saturday presented certificates to graduates who had successfully completed free online courses at Arizona State University.

During the Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium on December 12, 2022, President Ruto announced the offering of complimentary online courses from Arizona State University’s Thunderbird School of Global Management to all attendees.

The program's objective, as stated by President Ruto, is to position Kenya as a global and regional talent hub by providing citizens with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the global economy.

President Ruto honored the graduates at the Youth Connekt Africa Summit held at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) in Nairobi.

"When I made the announcement, it did not look real then, but today we have evidence that it is reality," he said while reflecting on the initiative.

Some of the attendees who graced the 2022 Jamhuri Day fete were offered a free course scholarship on Global Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

To access the scholarship, Ruto asked the attendees to scan the QR codes near them.

"It is now time to keep the promise. There is a QR Code near you. Scan and access the scholarship now. The course is now accessible to you for free, courtesy of the Innovation Jamhuri," he said then.

The scholarship was for a 16-unit course on Global Entrepreneurship and Innovation, which would have cost approximately Sh100,000 if Kenyans had to pay for it themselves.

The program was part of Arizona’s larger initiative to provide free online education to 100 million people worldwide, with 70 percent of those individuals being women and girls.
