Kenyans to access national parks free of charge on Jamhuri Day - CS Mutua

Citizens will also not pay to access museums

Kenyans will have free access to national parks and museums on Jamhuri Day, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has announced.

Mutua said citizens will not be charged to gain access to all national parks and museums on December 12, 2023 as the country commemorates 60 years of independence.

“This initiative aligns with our collective pride in being Kenyan and our desire for everyone to relish the gifts bestowed upon us by nature,” he said in a statement posted on X.

The CS said Kenya boasts breathtaking landscapes, from vast savannahs to pristine beaches and majestic mountains, showcasing the country’s unparalleled beauty.

“Our rich flora and fauna stand as a testament to our national pride and conservation efforts, inviting visitors to revel in these natural wonders,” he stated.

National parks include Aberdare National Park, Amboseli National Park, Arabuko Sokoke National Park, Central Island National Park, Chyulu Hills National Park, Hell's Gate National Park, Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park, Kora National Park, Lake Nakuru National Park, Malindi Marine National Park and Malka Mari National Park.

Others are Masai Mara National Park, Meru National Park, Mombasa Marine Park, Mount Elgon National Park, Mount Kenya National Park, Mount Longonot National Park, Nairobi National Park, Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park, Ruma National Park, Saiwa Swamp National Park, Sibiloi National Park Tsavo East National Park, Tsavo West National Park and Watamu Marine National Park.

Museums include Nairobi National Museum, Nairobi Railway Museum, Nairobi, Nairobi Snake Park, Narok Museum, Nyeri Museum, Olorgesailie Pre-Historic Site, Olorgesailie, Bomas of Kenya, Fort Jesus Museum, Mombasa and Kariandusi Pre-Historic Site Museums among others.
