They (Azimio) had no option.
Whatever is happening today was inherited from the handshake government, which they were a part of.
There is no way they could reject a report addressing problems that were not caused by this government.
The record is there, very clearly, for anyone to go through, and see all these issues.
When it comes to the issue of the cost of fuel, how much was the subsidy? And subsidy is also Kenyans’ money.
You cannot say subsidy was somebody else’s money. Where does the government get money from?
It gets from the people. So, whether they were paying subsidy or not, it’s still Kenyans' money that was used. Kenyans were paying the subsidy through a centralised system and also through the pump, but the cost of fuel was still high.
For me, and as one of the leaders of Parliament during the former regime, we had the Constitution and the transitional clauses during election, especially when a new regime is taking over, that were poorly made.
We need to have a clause that will force the Treasury to close six months to elections. During that period, Treasury should only deal with mandatory expenses of paying salaries of military, teachers and other civil servants.
But for development issues, Treasury should close six months to elections.
That is the only way you can guarantee the new president or government can get some funds that he can start running his government with.
But right now, they loot everything and the next government gets nothing.
The current government requires sympathy more than anything else. That is why we have this high cost of living.
Azimio signed the report because they know they were the cause of the problems we are facing. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have signed.
Do you think Raila Odinga would have signed the report if he thinks it was not solving the problems? He wouldn’t have done that.
This government needs sympathy and support of everybody so we can get out of this economic problem.
