Public Service CS Moses Kuria has said that he will ensure some officers from the National Youth Service are deployed to Haiti.

This follows Kenya's decision to deploy 1,000 police officers to Haiti for a peacekeeping mission.

Speaking on Thursday, Kuria said that President William Ruto tasked him to ensure youths get employment.

"I am here to get jobs for the youths, and anywhere I hear there's an opportunity, as long as it's not drugs, I'm taking the youth, even if that's in Haiti, we must have NYS. Yes even in Haiti, we must ensure our youths get jobs," he said.

He said the ministry will have a Memorandum of Understanding between Kenya Seed Company and the Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) to employ the NYS as seedling propagators.

The CS spoke during the launch of the NYS Interventions for Agriculture and Food Security in Kitale.

More than 1,000 officers will be picked from the Rapid Deployment Unit, Anti Stock Theft Unit, General Service Unit, and Border Patrol Unit to form a larger team for deployment.

Top security officials met a group of diplomats in Nairobi to seek support for the Haiti mission.

The High Court extended orders stopping the deployment of police officers to Haiti for a peacekeeping mission.

This is after Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot sued the government, seeking to block the deployment.

He argued that Kenya's bid to lead a UN-approved force into Haiti is in gross violation of the constitution.

He faulted Ruto for planning to deploy police officers outside Kenya at a time when the force has been unable to curb tribal violence in Lamu County, where members of one community have been targeted for death.

On Tuesday, Justice Chacha Mwita directed the parties in the case to file their court papers and appear in court for highlighting on November 9.
