Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has showered retired President Uhuru Kenyatta with praise as he marks his 62nd birthday.

In his message, Khalwale said that despite supporting different sides during his presidency, he still values their friendship.

"Former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Happy birthday to you! Hope you're enjoying life in retirement. Although we went different ways during your presidency, I cherish our friendship. With nostalgia, I remember how I hosted you and William Ruto (then Minister for Agriculture) in my home in Malinya after I retained my seat as MP for Ikolomani, in the hotly contested by election of 2011," he said on X.

The senator went on to say that the former President left two important marks that will forever remain with him.

Khalwale noted that Uhuru, who at the time served as Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, released funds for the construction of a key road in his home region.

He added that Uhuru also accorded him financial support as he sought election in Ikolomani, during a by-election in 2011.

Khalwale said that should the former head of state find time, he would love to host him for a drink in his Malinya home.

"You left two indelible marks 1. As Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, u released funds for the construction of Sigalagala Butere Road. It's now complete. 2. You supported me financially in that by-election campaign. Welcome to Malinya for a drink brother."

Uhuru retired last year after serving two terms as President of the Republic of Kenya.

Several leaders have also gone ahead and wished the former president best wishes as he enjoys retirement. Kenyans also joined in sending their wishes.

Some politicians from Mt Kenya are reportedly planning to throw a bash to mark one year since he left office.

The venue of the event has, however, not been revealed by the organisers even as former Jubilee secretary general Jeremiah Kioni vehemently denied any existence of such plans.

Kioni told the Star that while Uhuru remains the Jubilee party leader, they have yet to plan any event to celebrate his birthday.
