Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang'ula has approved the removal of Nominated MP Sabina Chege as Deputy Minority Whip.

Chege will now be replaced by Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje who had been nominated by  Jubille as her replacement.

"In this regard, Mark Mwenje replaces nominated MP Sabina Chege as the Deputy Minority Whip," Wetang'ula announced.

"To give effect the provisions of article 36 of the Constitution on freedom of association and article 38 of the Constitution on the political right which confer upon each member of the House the right to determine which entity they wish to be associated with."

Wetang'ula told the two warring factions of the Jubilee party to stop dragging his name into their supremacy battle.

The leadership change comes after months of push and pull between the opposition, Speaker Wetang'ula and the Jubilee Party faction allied with President William Ruto.

The minority side had settled on Embakasi Mwenje to replace Sabina.

The changes however occasioned months of wrangles and blame games between the above-mentioned parties.

The battle would later find its way into the corridors of justice after Sabina lodged a case to block her ouster.

Kiambu High Court, however, dismissed the case on October 9 after declaring that Sabina had not exhausted all the dispute resolution mechanisms within Azimio.

The appointment of Mwenje as Sabina's replacement was announced in June after the  Azimio la Umoja coalition announced that MP Sabina would no longer lead the outfit.

Ugunja MP and Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi announced that the decision was made after the Nominated MP declared allegiance to the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition.

The minority leader added that the decision is in furtherance of a Jubilee party National Delegates Conference (NDC) where MP Chege was expelled from the party's leadership.
