A shoe company manager and a cashier were on Monday charged in a Nairobi court with stealing shoes worth Sh15 million from the company.
Moses Ngugi Muchwe and Francis Mwangi Wairimu alleged to be employees of Bata Shoe PLC were accused that on diverse dates between July 12, and December 11, 2021 at Nairobi Bata Shoe Kenya PLC depot, they stole 16,711 pairs of shoes all valued at Sh15,509,987.
The said shoes are believed to have come into their possession by virtue of their employment.
The two are alleged to have colluded and sold the shoes but did not remit the money to the company.
The police said they would, however, claim that the sales were low and the shoes were still in store.
Through self declaration, the two indicated that there was a loss of Sh1 million only for an external auditor to confirm that shoes valued at more than Sh15 million were missing from the stock.
They appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Esther Kimilu and denied the charges.
The suspects asked for witness statements from the prosecution and pleaded for lenient bond terms and were released on a bond of Sh5 million each.
The case will be mentioned on October 24 for pretrial.
