Kenya's Wallace Rago was beaten to second place in the light heavyweight category during the annual Mr. East Africa Natural body-building contest staged at the Rupaz Health and Fitness Centre in Eldoret.
Tanzanian Erick Majura won the category and attributed his success to proper preparations and confidence prior to the event. Another Tanzanian Obadiah Andabwile was third in a contest that attracted over 335 contestants from five nations.
After unsuccessfully competing in two events, Majura, who is a three-time Tanzanian national bodybuilding champion, managed to win on his third attempt. “I came here with the sole purpose of winning and I am happy the judges ruled in my favour,” said Majura.
Organizers of the event led by Nebert Shiveka promised to increase the prize money again come next year. " Last year we had a prize package of Sh 1 million but we have increased it to Sh2 million. We hope to increase it again next year," said Shiveka.
They also promised to relocate to a bigger venue due to the high number of spectators, who turned up for the event.
“This was big because we brought together about 335 bodybuilders from five nations including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, and Rwanda. We are also happy the host nation had a representative from the Ministry of Sports,” Shiveka noted.
Shiveka said they are considering moving the event from Rupaz Mall to Eldoret Sports Club
