Detectives in Meru have arrested an ex-policeman in connection with the murder of his former lover.
Jackson Rukunga from the Igoki location in the Imenti North sub-county is suspected of killing Faith Kinya, 40, following a scuffle in his house.
According to police, the two have been living in separate rooms in a plot at Igoki centre.
The deceased, a report filed at Igoki police station states, stormed into the man's house armed with a stone and started removing a Television set, welding machine and grinder with the aim of selling them.
"A fight ensued between two and in the process she succumbed to injuries," it reads.
Police officers who visited the scene found the lifeless body lying in a pool of blood on the floor of the house with injuries on her head and blood splashed on the floor and wall.
"Two stools, a piece of stone and a white tablecloth with blood stains taken as an exhibit," it adds.
The body was moved to Meru level 5 hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem with the suspect set to be charged with murder.
Meru is among the top three counties with the highest crimes reported at police stations.
Nairobi topped the list with 6,686 crimes followed by the neighbouring Kiambu County at 5,715 and Meru third with 5,032.
Homicide cases have been on an upward trend in the county.
Data from the National Crime Research Center (NCRC) shows that cases in the county account for 22.8 per cent which is two per cent shy that of national.
