Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has questioned why some cabinet secretaries were ridiculing Kenyans on the issue of high fuel prices.

On Saturday, the lawyer said that most Kenyans were struggling with the current cost of living but some government employees were laughing at them.

"The average Kenyan is really struggling! These are truly hard times! And I really don't get why H.E Ruto's employees are laughing and ridiculing the poor," Ahmednasir said on his X social handle.

"I just don't get this heartless gloating! Where is empathy for the poor...the downtrodden? Ahmednasir posed.

He was reacting to the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industries Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria's statement on how he linked the high cost of fuel in Kenya to climate change.

The CS claimed that by February 2024, Petrol will cost Sh260.

"I repeat. Petrol will be Sh260 by February. El Nino is coming in three weeks which will last till March," Kuria said.

Justifying his remarks, the CS went ahead and said that responsible leaders should tell people the truth as it was.

"These are global and climate change driven. Responsible leaders ought to tell the truth to prepare the people. You can throw stones at me all you want," Kuria added.

Fuel prices have crossed a record Sh200 mark for the first time in Kenya's history, with the rate rising by as much as Sh20 for every litre.

In its latest price review released on Thursday, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

Revised the prices upwards as follows; Super Petrol by Sh16.96, Diesel by Sh21.32 and Kerosene by Sh33.13.

This means the pump prices will be as follows; Super Petrol at Sh211.64, Diesel at Sh201 and Kerosene at Sh202.13 per litre in Nairobi.
