This is the first ever project to be delivered in the country under the government’s Affordable Housing Project.
The project is being developed by GulfCap Real Estate in partnership with the Mombasa county government.
President William Ruto is expected to jet into Mombasa in two weeks to officially break ground for the second phase, which will see 1,400 more units constructed.
Phase 2 will involve the construction of 16 floors that will provide clients with a fascinating sea view from their apartments to appreciate the beauty of Mombasa.
The development of phase 2, which is currently being sold, will involve rooftop terraces and an elevator which will be installed to allow access to the high-tower buildings.
GulfCap Real Estate CEO Chris Ochieng said the handover ceremony on Saturday will mark the beginning of a new era in affordable housing in Kenya.
He said quality and affordable housing can be accessible to Kenyans from all walks of life.
“This is an achievement we are proud of. It goes to show that Kenyans can have access to an improved quality of life with diligent planning,” Ochieng said.
The Buxton Point, whose construction has not been without challenges including court cases and protests, will also ensure the aesthetic value of the Buxton area greatly improves.
Gone are the old and dilapidated buildings which have been replaced by new beautiful ones.
However, environmentalists have warned the public against littering the beautifully and neatly cultured gardens in the exterior of the housing units, where the public is now seen relaxing during the day.
“I could not imagine Buxton can be this beautiful. It is pleasing to have such a housing project in the CBD.
“But what irks me is the usual habit of Kenyans who have already started littering the beautifully cultivated gardens on the exterior parts of the housing units where there are sitting slabs,” Mercy Ochuodho, an environmental activist, said.
The project has a basketball court, swimming pool, indoor gyms, and other facilities for yoga and other relaxation sports.
Ochieng said there will be an array of activities on Saturday, the official handing over day, for residents and their families.
There will be a basketball mini-tournament and a swimming competition for the children and youth.
“We have appointed a dedicated lifestyle manager who will be assisting homeowners to enroll in different lifestyle clubs created to help residents enjoy the lifestyle we have created at Buxton Point,” he said.
Some of the clubs include basketball, soccer, swimming, indoor sports, gym, aerobics, yoga, walking warriors, book, music, bible and Quran study clubs, among others.
“What sets Buxton Point apart is not just the quality of our homes but the sense of belonging we foster within our community. By offering a diverse range of amenities and lifestyle options, we empower residents to live life to the fullest,” Ochieng said.
