The Principal Criminal Registrar's (PCR) office has announced key changes when applying for Police Clearance Certificates.

In the changes that have come following the resumption of issuance of the certificates, Kenyans will no longer have to book their fingerprint capture dates through the eCitizen portal.

Instead, one will only select their preferred fingerprinting centre on the portal, where they will visit at their convenience.

“The PCR further wishes to clarify that applicants no longer need to book fingerprinting dates on the eCitizen portal, but must select their preferred fingerprinting centres based on convenience,” the DCI said.

The PCR also urged applicants to ensure the Identity card copies attached to the application are well duplicated, especially on the thumbprint section.

“To avoid instances of return to sender, applicants are reminded to ensure that the ID card copies attached to the filled application forms are well duplicated, with attention to the thumbprint impression.”

Previously, police clearance applicants had to book appointments with the PCR before presenting themselves for fingerprint capture.

In the booking, they had to indicate their preferred station of capture and the date and time for the capture.

This came after the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak as a way for state agencies to control the number of visiting their premises.
